ARTIST STATEMENT

My mission is to capture and express the fragile beauty of our natural environment, to remind us of its value and to encourage our efforts for its preservation. Through classic landscape photography, I attempt to create evocative images that have a sense of mystery, and that resonate with the energy of light.

In seeking images, I look first for places of natural beauty, then wait or return for the best light. Different scenes may call for the soft blue light of open shade, bright overcast light to enhance subtle colors, or the dramatic warm light of sunset.

My portfolio includes many studies of water in its sensuous, flowing forms. Often, I use long exposures to express the sensuality of flowing water, turning waterfalls into cascades of light and rapids into soft mist. For other scenes, where water splashes too quickly for the eye to appreciate, the camera captures a single instant, to reveal jewel-like forms.

The images in my collection also include landforms, carved by water into elegant forms; and the sky, with its ethereal cloud structures. All serve to express the variety and richness of our natural world.
